Testimonials

Superior Massage Therapy works heavily with competitive athletes, weekend warriors, and people dealing with the everyday pains and stresses of life. We make it our goal to educate and show people how massage should part of your regular self-care routine so you can be the best version of you.

Many of our clients participate in sports such as triathlons, marathons, and Olympic weight lifting; they use a combination of massage and stretching to increase range of motion and flexibility and to decrease delayed onset muscle soreness and their chance of injury.

Superior Massage Therapy is the right place for you if you enjoy being active and are looking for someone to help you stay that way.

How We Got Started

After I finished massage school I started working at a chain spa in the area and realized very quickly that I was not cut out for the spa world. Not only do I not enjoy giving relaxation massage, I don’t even like to receive them. Don’t get me wrong, there is certainly a time and place for a good relaxing massage, but as an athlete, I just never feel like I get enough out of it.

After a few months of working at the spa, my husband and I built a treatment room in our house and started reaching out to friends and acquaintances to let them know that I was available for business. It took about a year and a half of working out of the house before I got to the point where I realized that I needed a commercial space in order to grow into the business I wanted to be, so in late 2016 I found a small office in Pleasant Ridge where we started Superior Massage Therapy, a massage studio entirely focused on athletes.

I worked on my own for a while seeing athletes in the area but it didn’t take long before I grew out of that space as well. I knew that in order to satisfy the demand of the metro Detroit athletes, I would need more massage therapists who had a passion for sports massage just like me.

As a company we have several core beliefs.

  1. Its important to keep moving. As humans our bodies were not designed to sit behind a desk for 8 hours a day, so find something you love to do and get out there and do it!

  2. Bodywork will help you stay active. When you use your body it will get sore, that’s just how it works. Go do what you love and come see us after so we can help you recover to get back out there.

  3. Education is important. We don’t just give you your massage and send you on your way, part of how we train our therapists is that we show them how to teach their clients to take care of themselves between massages; whether its how to warm up before a workout or how to increase your mobility and flexibility, our staff wants to share their knowledge.

My name is Erika and I am the owner and licensed massage therapist at Superior Massage Therapy. I am trained in neuromuscular therapy, sports massage, Rock Blades (Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Manipulation) Rock Tape (Kinesiology Tape), Rock Pods (Myofascial Cupping), and certified in myofascial release. I became interested in massage therapy so that I could help people. Massage is a great way for active people to continue doing the activities you love and that is my goal as a therapist. I want you to come see me and leave feeling better. It is important to be proactive in your own health. The best way to do that is to do everything you can to stay healthy; being active and eating healthy are a great place to start! My role as a massage therapist is to keep you doing what you love.

When I'm not at work, I am an outdoor enthusiast! I enjoy triathlon, mountain biking, rock climbing, hiking, camping, snowboarding, and hanging out with my dog, (not necessarily in that order). I believe that being active and living healthy plays a huge role in the happiness we experience in life, and I encourage everyone to do what you love and love what you do!
